Our mail server will only let you send mail if it recognizes that you are a Brand X user. Normally it does this by looking at your IP address. That's your numerical ip address, not your email address. Anyone could fake your mail return address, the ip address is a little harder to hack.
The problem is that If you are using a different connection, such as a cable modem, or if you are out of town, you will require special settings in order to send mail using Brand X Internet.
You do this by using the server 209.55.115.55 to send your mail, and by turning on password authorization for sending.
With Microsoft Outloook Express, here's what to do.
First. make sure you have your mail set up according to our instructions, then make the following change:
From the Outlook Express menu select:
Tools-> accounts-> mail -> (select account) -> properties -> servers
Configure like the following picture, and make sure, under settings, that you configure it to use the same username for sending, as you use for checking your mail. This is just a check box under "settings".
Then select "My server requires authentication" and click on "settings" to bring up the "outgoing mail server" window.
Select "log on using account name/password" and enter the correct username and password. At your option select "remember password". Do not check secure password authentication. Click OK.
This returns you to the properties window. Select OK.
This returns you to the accounts window. Select "close"
This should set it up for you.
Now, you should be able to send mail from anywhere, as long as you have the correct username and password.
