Setting up GTE ADSL for Windows 95/98

Note: Your PC must be capable of accepting 10BaseT ethernet. Nearly every bundled PC has this, but if you have a custom built PC, you may need to purchase and install a 10BaseT network card.

Please note: Brand X Tech Support will not offer free support for the setup of your local area network. Support for such setup is available at our usual consulting rates.

When GTE is finished, they will have given you the DSL modem and a cross-over cable. A cross-over cable is only good for connecting a single computer. Do not try to use this cable for your local area network.

  1. Connect the DSL modem to your local area network hub using a standard ethernet cable.

For each computer on your network, do the following:

  2. Open your Control Panels folder.

  3. Open your Network Control Panel.

  4. Highlight your Network card and click on the button for Properties.

  5. Click on the tab for IP Address.

  6. Select the radio button for Specify an IP address.
