Brand X's T1 service was named "one of the best values
for Internet access" by Internet Computing Magazine.
What is a T1 Line?
A T1 connection is a VERY FAST connection to the Internet. A T1 line is
dedicated, meaning that it is always on and there are no per minute
charges. You do not need to dial in. The connection is always active.
With a T1 line, you can provide dozens of computers with Internet access
without modems, telephone lines, and dialup accounts for each one. A T1
provides approximately 1500k of bandwidth as compared to a 28.8k modem.
What this means is that 10 computers can simultaneously access the
Internet and each have 150k of bandwidth (5 times what they'd have with
28.8 modems). Given that most access is not simultaneous, you can easily
support 100 or more computers with one T1 line.
What does it cost?
If you currently have a number of computers in your office each connected
to the net with a modem, phone line, and dial-up account, a T1 may
actually reduce the amount your company is currently paying for access.
A T1 connection is comprised of two separate services and equipment.
The T1 Line (aka "the local loop")
First is your T1 line. The wire (aka "the local loop") that actually
connects your site to the Brand X Network Center. We refer nearly all of
our T1 clients to WorldCom to have this wire installed because they are
reliable and much cheaper than the standard telephone companies. The
charge for this wire varies depending on your distance from our Network
Center in Marina Del Rey and the type of building you are in (modern
office building with plenty of state-of-the-art fiber or residence with
just a couple of copper pairs). If you provide us with the exact address
of your site and even more importantly, a telephone number at the site,
we can obtain an exact quote from WorldCom within 2 business days.
Your connection to the Internet
The second part of your T1 is the connection to the Internet. This is
where Brand X comes in. We hook up your line to our network where we
will provide you with 1.5 megabits per second of bandwidth for a flat fee
of $500 per month. (Note: No adult hosted is allowed.) Brand X has no
startup fee.
The equipment
Our $500 per month rate does not include any equipment. You must supply
a CSU/DSU and a router for both ends of the connection. For most
clients, we recommend the Ascend Pipeline 130 which is a combination
CSU/DSU and router in one small unit. These retail for approximately
$1500. Brand X can arrange to purchase the equipment for you provided
that payment is made upfront. Brand X can also arrange to provide the T1
to you with the equipment at the Brand X end of the connection supplied.
The price for this is an extra $100 per month (or in otherwords $600 per
month instead of $500 per month). We can also rent you equipment for
your end of the connection. This will require another $100 per month, a
$100 deposit, the purchase of a $100 per year insurance policy, and
photocopies of the responsible's party's driver's license and social
security card.

- No adult hosting. You may not provide hosting services for any adult
material. (Please note: On Brand X, you may always download and view
whatever you wish. The restriction is against using your connection as a
point of distribution.)
