New Mail Server

Over the weekendof Jan 21-22 we installed a new mail server. There were two reasons for this.

We solved this by combining the POP mail server mail.brandx.net and the webmail server webmail.brandx.net into one new server, which is larger and faster. We beleive this will result in better mail performance.

The new server resides at the IP address formerly occupied by webmail.brandx.net. DNS has been adjusted accordingly but some people have had trouble reaching it.

If you are having problems checking mail it's probably just that the DNS updates haven't reached you yet. Here is a workaround:

Open the account settings for your email program and locate the setting for pop (incoming) mail server and set it to "webmail.brandx.net". The exact location of this setting varies from program to program but it should not be hard to find.

Questions: Do I need to change my settings/password/username/ssl settings? No.

Has incoming mail been lost during transition? No, it goes to the two backup servers and then is relayed back to the mail server.

Do I need to tell people my address has changed? No. Your address has not changed.

Do I need to do anything? No.

Where can I find email left on the old server? We are currently reviving this machine, which as of this morning would not boot due to disk problems. We will restore it to life within a day or so and the old mail will be available from it. Information will be added to this page when this is ready.

If you have further questions please email support@brandx.net.

Thanks!

Happy computing!
